The League of Ireland's most prominent goalkeeper Gary Rogers has joined the Meath senior football backroom team for the coming year. Rogers, a native of Meath, will take over the role of goalkeeping coach from Cormac Sullivan who has stepped away. Rogers, who has featured on Irish international soccer squads in recent years, has an extensive coaching background with GAA teams and has featured on Meath junior teams in the past. His arrival is one of a series of changes that sees former All-Ireland-winning midfielder Gerry McEntee also leave after two years with Louth-based coach Colm Nally coming in the opposite direction to link up with McEntee's brother Andy who is preparing for a third year at the helm. Finian Murtagh, Donal Curtis and Gerry Cooney will remain on as selectors. Nally was involved as a coach with Colin Kelly in Louth as they were promoted to Division 2 in 2017, having previously delivered Leinster intermediate glory for Meath club St Colmcille's the previous year. He was managing Dublin club Castleknock this year before being brought on board with Meath." All sounds good to me. Was in dunganny on Tues night as my daughter was playing in a U16 final - 1st thing if you heard that any of the meath or cavan footballers got injured it would have been down to the condition of the pitch. It was a disgrace and both clubs in the U16 camogie final refused to play so we had to wait until the U16 shield final was over on the other pitch. A disgrace you could loose you foot in the holes and full of sand. From article on homepage: "The external review with regard to the senior management and team has been completed. There was a good response to it from the manager and he has agreed to implement some of the suggestions. Only 25 of the 36 players who were asked responded to the questionaire." I'm sure some guys were travelling or unavailable but for nearly 1/3 of the squad not to participate in the review is unforgivable. They are part of a group that is trying to achieve something together and this just signals a lack of buy-in. Tells you all you need to know. Well if they disillusioned why not respond with their views??? Think it's more about couldn't care less and entitlement ethos that has destroyed Meath football for a long time. Great to see Nally and Rogers involved, two new faces will freshen things up. From what I am hearing a load of new lads have been asked in and given the chance. There is the makings of a very good team here to give the league and championship a shot. Now we mightn't achieve our goals but if we play to the standards which we set against Tyrone we won't be too far off. The biggest worry for me is that we don't have marquee forward who will notch 3/4 points from play each game this could be the difference between promotion and getting to the super 8s. Finally as to the lads who didn't respond to the survey some people might have just forgot, it is the "off season" after all. Would not read a whole lot into response of questionaire, internal surveys usually result in a less than 50% response. At least the panel were given the chance to air their views.
