Brady, Rita

Simonstown Lane resident Rita was a prominent figure on the local and national athletics scene and held the distinction of being the first woman president of the National Athletics and Cycling Association of Ireland (NACAI). She was a founding member of Navan AC in 1973. Her brother Ultan Fitzpatrick is well-known in Meath GAA circles and was minor board secretary for years. Another brother, Gerry, has served both the Walterstown and Simonstown clubs with distinction. Walterstown GFC's grounds are named after Rita's late father, John Fitzpatrick, while her son, Raymond, played football with Simonstown and was also a long-serving secretary of the club. Her grand-daughter, Niamh Lister, plays senior football with Meath.
