Tommy Byrne (Drogheda)

Tommy was Meath East TD Thomas Byrne's father and he was a formidable footballer in his younger years before switching to soccer where he played League of Ireland football for Drogheda United.

In a statement, St Colmcille's GAA said: "Although Tommy was known far and wide for his stellar career with Drogheda United he had deep roots with the Cilles and was a great friend of the club.

"Tommy's sons, Thomas, Brendan and James are all involved with the club and his grandchildren are proudly wearing the sky blue and navy.

"Daughter-in-law Anne needs no introduction to all involved in the ladies football and is a driving force in our burgeoning ladies teams.

"Tommy wife Kathleen is of course nee Hilliard, a family deep rooted and steeped in Cilles' history."
