Brona was well known in the horseracing world and in 1952 married Meath footballer Paddy Beggan. Oldcastle native Paddy was a member of teh Meath 1939 team who unluckily went under to Kerry in the All-Ireland final. The couple moved to Smithstown House in 1954 where they successfully became involved in thoroughbred breeding.
