Beakey, Pat

Pat died in tragic circumstances in mid-November. A very talented footballer with the old Shallon team, he usually lined out at full-back or midfield. Later Pat threw his full weight behind the newly formed St Colmcille's, an amalgamation of parish teams.  He was a key player as the east Meath men went under to Kilcloon in the Junior B final of 1969. He continued his involvement with the club and was a selector as a Bernard Flynn inspired Colmcilles beat Dunderry in the replayed Meath intermediate final of 1989. Pat Beakey remained a staunch clubman and was always ready to volunteer if ever help was required at the Cilles splendid new facilities in Piltown. His brother Brendan was, likewise, a very talented footballer and looked like a real county star in the making before a serious leg injury brought down the curtain on a promising career.
