Trim 0-19 Skryne 1-13

Trim claimed a place in the Meath Senior Football Championship quarter final for the second year in a row with this three point win over last years semi finalists Skryne in a highly entertaining round 3 clash played at Simonstown.

Aaron Lynch gave an exhibition. The county man was unmarkable and finished the game with an impressive 12 points from play and frees.

Before the game started there was a minutes silence for the late Conor Ahern who passed away last Monday morning.

Skryne got a great start. John Finnerty was on hand to fist home a Darragh Campion shot for a goal. Minutes later James Finnerty raised the games first white flag and the Tara men were on a roll.

Trim began to gain more possession and four unanswered points from Lynch (3) and Eoin O’Connor had them back in the game. Campion raised his second white flag and soon after Sean Smyth sent over the games first two pointer and Skryne led 1-4 to 0-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The Town side controlled most of the second quarter. A two pointer and a single from Aaron Lynch, another from his brother Daire and a second for O’Connor gave Ken Robinson’s men a 0-10 to 1-5 interval lead.

David Lernihan and 3 from Lynch extended that lead with early second half points. Campion was keeping Skryne in the game from placed balls and with 10 minutes left the scoreboard read 0-15 to 1-10.

Niall Finnerty and Rob Gallagher had the game level with five minutes remaining as Skryne gained control of matters. Trim and Lynch were not to be denied. The number 15 sent over his 10th from a free and a minute later repeated the same act from outside the arc. Oisin Keogh left it a two point game but Ciaran Caulfield had the last say and sent over his first score just before Patrick Coyle blew the full time whistle.

Trim advance to the quarter final along with Group B winners Ratoath. Skryne’s season is over. Na Fianna head to the relegation play offs.
