Meath 4-17 Leitrim/Longford 2-8

The Meath Masters football squad proved too strong for Leitrim/Longford in this round 6 All Ireland championship played in perfect conditions at Grangegodden.

The home side played against the breeze in the opening half and were 1-5 to 0-1 in front at the first water break. Trim’s Owen McGrath rolled back the years with 1-2 while Barry Balfe (2) and Gordon Weldon also got on the scoresheet. John L McGee hit 1-1 in the second quarter and Meath took a 2-9 to 0-3 lead to the half time huddle. 

Early second half points from Keith Reilly, Ronan McGuinness, Brendan Heffernan and Neil Darby put the Royals in total control and by the second water break they led 2-15 to 1-5, Willie Murray with the visitors goal. Stevie McManus and McGee completed a fine display with goals 3 and 4 in the closing 10 minutes. The combination side had the last say on the scoreboard with a John Doyle goal but by then Meath were already planning for their next outing.
