Donaghmore Ashbourne's Michael Deegan

Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-13 Curraha 0-09

Donaghmore Ashbourne 2nd team recorded an opening round Division 3 league win over neighbours Curraha in a wet and windy Ashbourne on Thursday night. The tough weather conditions didn’t help the ball skills but credit to both teams who battled the tough elements throughout.

The opening quarter was a low scoring affair as the sides were level on 0-02 a piece with the home side scores coming from a Michael Deegan free and Sean Tyrrell from play. Donaghmore Ashbourne dominated the second quarter against the visitors who were missing a few key players but only added 3 further points from their 10 chances.

A Michael Deegan free and a Michael O‘Sullivan point from play extended the Moors lead to 4 points within 2 minutes of the restart however Curraha has the sides level with four unanswered points by the  40th minute.

A Sean Tyrrell point on 41 minutes regained the home side’s lead and when Deegan hit a goal and point within 60 seconds of each at the end of the third quarter Donaghmore Ashbourne never looked back. The final quarter saw the home side extend the lead with 4 further points, including the only 2-pointer of the game from an Andy Colgan free but the visitors had the final say with the two points in the closing minutes, the latter a goal chance that went over the bar.
