Rathmolyon 2-11 Boardsmill 0-7
After beating Dunboyne in the Billy Byrne Cup final replay at the end of April Rathmolyon added the Michael Reilly Memorial Cup to their 2025 collection with this comfortable win over Boardsmill in the Division 3 HL final played in perfect conditions on the new Pitch 6 at Dunganny. PHOTOS
Boardsmill made a good start and were 0-2 to 0-0 up inside the opening five minutes thanks to a Luke Gallagher brace. Joey Christie levelled matters with two fine scores before Arthur Doyle gave Rathmolyon the lead. A Kevin Mulligan goal soon after put Brian Gilsenan’s men in charge and the Village side took a 1-6 to 0-5 lead to the half time huddle.
A early scoring blitz in the second half that yielded 1-4 put Rathmolyon well on the road to victory. Jack Payne and Mulligan pointed before Doyle raised their second green flag. Christie closed out the game with another brace before referee Shane Mooney blew the full time whistle.
The win secures promotion to Division 2 for Rathmolyon next year. Both teams now turn their attention to the IHC which begins on Thursday July 10th. Boardsmill face last year's finalist Drumree on Friday while Rathmolyon take on Kilmessan on Saturday.
After the game County Board Secretary Ciaran Flynn presented the Michael Reilly Memorial Cup to Rathmolyon captain Robert Ennis.
