It’s not often you see a score like this…
This evening’s Laois senior hurling championship semi-final between Abbeyleix and Rathdowney Errill produced a remarkable goal that saw the former side’s goalkeeper hitting the net from his own puckout.
The game at O’Moore Park was just over 10 minutes old when Enda Rowland’s monster puckout sailed all the way past his opposite number, giving Abbeyleix a 1-3 to 0-4 lead.
Abbeyleix would go on to win the game after extra time (3-20 to 3-18), advancing to their first senior hurling championship final since 1949 where they will meet Camross after their penalty shoot-out win over holders Clough-Ballacolla in the day’s later game in Portlaoise.
