The victorious 1997 Meath ladies senior squad.

Our photo shows the Meath panel that brought the first ever Leinster Ladies Senior Football Championship title to the county in 1997.

Under the guidance of Christy Regan and his selectors Richard Matthews and Niall Carry Meath defeated defending provincial holders Laois in the decider. It marked the beginning of a glorious period for the Royals, who went on to win four consecutive provincial titles.

Amazingly this very talented squad never reached the All Ireland final.

Waterford proved too strong in ’97 beating Meath 5-11 to 2-6.

The first Leinster winning squad was as per photo.
