New Waterford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald has been dealt an early blow with the news that two of three Bennett brothers won't be available for selection next year.

Pat Bennett revealed after leading Ferns St Aidan's to a first-ever Wexford SHC title yesterday that two of his sons, Shane and Kieran, are heading to Australia soon, meaning only 2020 All-Star forward Stephen will be available to play under the incoming manager.

"My lads are really excited – even though there’s two of them going to Australia, so it will be only Stephen left. But I think the players in Waterford are over the moon and delighted he’s coming in," the Ferns boss told reporters when asked about Fitzgerald's return to the Deise hotseat.

“Shane and Kieran are going to Australia. Kieran is going next week, we had our party last night, so that’s why I’m hoarse. He’s going away next week, and Shane is an electrician, he’s finishing and he’s going away then in January.”
