Replying To KnockaineyAbú:  "Take no notice of him. He is past his sell by date and is only trying to stay relevant."
Your 100% correct Knockainey Abu and normally I'd ignore but I have also just read Tommy Conlon in today's Indo.. Thats 2 big articles in the same national paper in a week which are on the one side.. Did the Indo not invite 2 from the other side?? Conlon has today also made some very condescending remarks about the very people; who have already paid up to 3 times for TV privelages and are still forced to pay yet again.. No 1. a TV licence, No. 2 their taxpayers money as RTE is state subsided and No 3 in a lot of cases people have a basic TV package with sky, eir etc.. and yes no 4 Gaa Go.. Its nothing short of scandalous and is clearly a cosy cartel between RTE & the GAA. There are 2 channels.. Rte 1 & RTÉ 2 which could have been put to better use last weekend instead of watching a meaningless coronation.. Peasants, the old man on the hill, if you're from Longford Carlow or Wicklow it probably won't matter etc. etc. are some of the lines trotted out.. Both of these men have shown where their loyalties lie and total disregard for the footsoldiers of our organisation.. They should come down the country or into any urban area any evening and see these men and women, line pitches, cut grass, coach teams, feed players and get them out of screens for a few hours a day..Watch these people direct traffic at wakes, funerals etc, run fundraisers, sell lotto, the list goes on for miles.. There is hardly a bad pitch left in most counties purely down the the sacrifices and selfless work carried by these volunteers.. Lads if you loose these people which is edging ever closer then we loose the very guts of our Association. It will take a lot more than a GaaGo subscription to replace them. Tommy and Martin yee are up to date with technology as it is in your everyday jobs and yee are familiar with it.. A lot of people work damn hard all day at jobs without technology and they simply don't have the time or the knowledge to keep up with the "times" yee are talking about.. And to take a swipe at politicians saying they are using this as political gain beggars belief.. How can Michael Martin or any other politician even win on this one?? Dónal Óg also got the wrap amongst others. Money is rotting our organisation from the inside out inch by inch and RTE now want a slice of the pie. Both columnists have lost contact with reality with their views and have forgotten that both have jobs that rely on the very ethos of the GAA. As the say eaten bread is soon forgotten. Both articles are condescending, very disrespectful and to sum it up disgraceful. I'm beginning to wonder if the indo have their tenticles somewhere in this.

Paul Barden had to be one of the best if not the best Longford player of his generation. He was on teams that took down Kerry in the, Mayo and Derry (twice) in championship, and ran both Dublin & Kerry Close in championship. I spoke to inter County players who dreaded the sight of him coming towards him. He had a burst of speed and worse still for a defender he could carry the ball at a ferocious speed. He could score with both feet from left or right. What brilliant service he gave Longford. In a way I'm glad he had his day back when naturally talented players could shine and when needs be go on that solo run and get that score winning score. Sadly in today's game his prowness would not be encouraged, Imagine if he was dispossessed on a solo run the seats men would go berserk.

Replying To Pikeman96:  "Frankly, I find it strange that three men younger than myself and a barman of indeterminate age were unable to figure out between them how to browse to a site and input a few details in order to stream a match. Even stranger if you were one of them. You're obviously computer-literate enough to know how to create an e-mail address, how to register on a site like this, how to log in whenever you want to, and how to post. I wouldn't have thought that creating an account on GAA GO and browsing to the match you want to watch would have been all that different."
Well if you find that strange I'm sorry. It did happen though. Maybe you should get out and about more and mix with people who have much less ability that yourself. Then you will understand.

Marty - a bit of a national treasure - 3 Like(s)
I'm just curious as to why a few posters find him annoying?? What's wrong with people throwing up and posting every thought that comes into their head?? If he annoys you then keep that to yourself. He's never put a foot wrong in his whole career. You do realise that he could easily read your comments?? He's an absolute gentleman and does not deserve lazy thoughtless comments. The speed (especially in hurling) that he can identify players and throw up stats is a joy to behold. He flows with the game and adds so much to it. Listening to him full flow in a hurling game is a joy. Whenever he retires we will look back and realise that yes he was an absolute treasure. To Slayer who started this post well good minds think alike!!

Replying To Primrose_and_blue:  "Having had a day to reflect, overall it's very disappointing to go out in the manner we did. We have definitely improved in some aspects this year and are tougher to play against for sure. However since our win over Armagh in mid February, we've only won 3 games against a Donegal in disarray, Mayo who were sitting ducks after the league final and a div 4 Sligo team. We didn't deserve a quarter final place and can have no complaints. The timing of the run is definitely something that will have to be looked at by management next year. I posted on here last winter that the Connacht championship is now an FBD equivalent and needs to be treated as such. Galway are out of the championship tonight as Connacht winners which says it all. We've definitely tightened up at the back but the concession of one sloppy goal each game is costing us big time. Yesterdays was as bad as any as it was 5 defenders on 2 attackers and a goal should never have happened. We're also not ruthless enough when we turnover the opposition, our transition in those situations is very ponderous whereas cork moved the ball very fast for their winner. Thanks to the team and management for their efforts this year and looking forward to 2024 in div 1 again. Hopefully we can get a few players back and have a full strength panel to pick from."
As a neutral I think Roscommon have been an absolute revelation over the past ten years. I remember us beating yee in a Div 4 final in Croke Park and to see what yee have achieved since is total admiration from most counties. The Cork game on the road cost yee even though it shouldn't have. I hope Davy stays with yee.

Replying To GreenandRed:  "We're you happier last year paying for Sky Sports GAA coverage with a lot less live games and no games on playback?"
I didnt pay for Sky Sports nor will I pay for Gaa Go. There are plenty of homes in this country with enough bills without our national Broadcaster and our supposed own national sport organisation (Gaa) pillaging us for more. Myself and others here are merely trying to sympathise with those who pay to their clubs through lotto, support their County team, lots giving hours every week to fundraising & preparing teams, pay all of the above mentioned and are asked for more money.. When Sky swooped in we had plenty of lads who saw only the money and happy to jump on the bandwagon and trotted out the lines like "pay per view sky sports will benefit our game and advertise our national sport all over the world" Well this dream sank quickly when Sky pulled out due to lack of profits. I don't hear them boys worried about advertising our national game abroad now??! It's all about the money money money.. A blind man would see that

It's pretty clear that the split season and congestion is not to blame here. The dogs on the street know well that this is a money making machine. We pay licence fee, the taxpayers subsidise rte, we pay tv subscription, now they want us to pay again?? The organisation that is the Gaa is built from the ground up.. i.e. Volunteers. Let me tell you that those volunteers patients are running out and who'd blame them. RTE or the upper etilons in the GAA do not care tuppence about grassroots.

So if GAA go doesnt exist then who will cover the games. it cant operate for free and yes people who do pay for their clubs lotto, etc will have to pay for this. thats life. sky sports are irrelevant to this discussion."
Why isn't there enough channels on Saturday? Rte 2have racing on at 2:30 and the English DIY SOS at 5pm. Rte 1 has keeping up appearances at 2pm, Tom Curtain at 2:30 and the 1% club on at 5pm.. No place for the 2 quarter finals?? Didn't they use RTE 1 and RTE 2 on Sunday side by side for Tailten and prelim quarter finals? They can afford to pay Tubs a fortune over and above?? The advertisement on Saturday if they showed them games would be huge..wouldnt that bring in hundreds of thousands over the 2 games?? Would proper management and common sense not make it work this wknd?? Why do we have to buckle to the suits here?? We know that RTE is a shambles and can make this work

Why Are RTÉ Not Showing The Div 1&2 League Final Live? - 2 Like(s)
With all respect to TG4 and they do trojan work all year but don't those of us who don't speak Irish (the vast majority) deserve to watch & listen to the league finals in English? The second most important finals in football and it's in Irish. How on earth can the GAA and RTÉ not come up with better than this.. Talk about promoting our game. Its nothing short of laughable.

Replying To slayer:  "You are making an assumption that nobody else will show them free to air. TG4 and Virgin Media don't use pay per view for the seccer, rugby and underage GAA games that they show and their coverage is pretty good. RTE are given a very low bar to clear. In the 1980's they used to cover one all Ireland hurling semi final and if Antrim were in the other they'd not even bother to show the game if it was on anywhere other than Croker. We only saw Antrim's glorious win over Offaly in 1989 because it was part of a double header mandated by the GAA. Let's face it the GAA and RTE saw an opportunity on the back of Sky's Now TV and greed took over. The idea that either the GAA or RTE have any interest in parochial development or customer satisfaction is laughable. Sky's Now TV is a budget version of their sky box package. They offer NowTV for less than their sky sports package. With the GAA/RTE GAAGO is an extra on top of the TV license. It is potentially an extra cost to older fans who need to buy equipment to watch GAAGO (eg smart TV, Apple TV box) compared to switching on their non smart TV and viewing the game). I really wonder about those who continue to defend RTE and the GAA. RTE go on about the number of games they cover in comparison to yesteryear while paying money to pretty poor presenters through all sorts of shady deals. They employ people on zero hours contracts who do research for these highly paid presenters and then use pay per view TV to find such items too. The GAA are no better. Croke Park has long since left the idea of community behind. These days it is all about concerns, conferences and maximizing revenue. It is still the clubs who produce u derage talent where volunteers give up the same time as an RTE presenter spends at work each week, to their local GAA club. If RTE and the GAA were credible organisations the first thing they'd do in the wake of the RTE controversy would be to have every remaining game free to air in 2023. They need to restore the trust of the people and abandoning GAAGO would be a great start. They should be working with us, not us working to fund them."
Slayer it seems so many people are just willing to open their wallet any time they are asked without asking why or just assuming well look "that's life". People who experienced hardship or tough times when things didn't come easy to them will always and rightly so question when the big suits just dress a wolf up in sheep's clothing and expect us to believe it and pay up.. The corporates are steamrolling mpst of us all but we still need to take a stand. Some very good points made there.

Replying To wicklowsupport:  "It hasn't been a level playing final for the past twenty years. Nor is it an individual award, it is a team award for individuals with the top county teams. The original idea was to reward the best individual players in their position regardless of what team you played for. Now it has morphed into a selection confined to the all ireland semi finalists and finalist with an occassional player selected outside these teams. They even introduced a way to pick players in different positions so they didn't have to leave players they wanted out. You can be an outstanding player carrying your native county team singlehandedly and not be considered."
I'm being biased here but we had a player here Paul Barden who played for Longford for about 15 years and to watch this man in action was a sight to behold. He could d take on and rip through defence at lightening speed and bury the ball in the net or equally score as fine of long range points your likely to ever see. His speed while carrying the ball was just incredible. Sorry no Allstar here. Colm Ó Rourke on the Sunday Game once described him as one of the best footballers in the country. Surely there are payers even in Kerry, Dublin, Derry Monaghan with discontent over not been selected. The allstars competition is not representative or transparent and even we all agreed with it in principle the selections are subjective. Its one of the big hoorays of the year that the GAA seem to champion even more than some of the football/hurling competitions themselves.

Replying To Ryanteam:  "Time to toughen up and grow a pair. I assume you live in the USA, and like me in the Northeast have got used to traveling in adverse conditions. Bit of rain shouldn't affect the average Irishman as they are well used to it. Traveling around Ireland is easy as traffic is nonexistent in most parts. Again, congratulations to Damien Cahalane, the hero of the game, and Niall would be very proud."
Let's be respectful to each other's comments here. To be fair, foreveryoung was talking about public safety and travelling and it was a very long journey to and from in atttricious weather conditions. Why on earth did the Gaa drag both clubs up to Limerick city? Both clubs woukd have supporters from as young as 5 yrs old and as old as well maybe 90 yrs old and they all have to get to these matches somehow as well as everybody in between.. Club football is deep and and these people support through thick and thin and days like today don't happen without them.. Young lads would play football in any conditions which they did very impressively today but today was much more than a bit rain and looking at each parish as a whole, Castlehaven supporters had to make a round trip of approx 330km and Dingle supporters 306km. Is this safe on bad roads? Is this not very irresponsible of the GAA to expect this when there was a far easier halfway ground? And Ryanteam, our back roads might not be full of traffic but on days like today they are very treacherous so please look at the big picture here. Finally I think penalties are an absolute shocking way to end any Gaa match. Plenty of time for a replay. The football on display today was an absolute credit to both clubs in hurricane conditions. Both sets of players just went for it, displaying pure courage and honest football which in my opinion is better than any county football I've witnessed in recent years. Its a pity there had to be a loser today but club football was the real winner

I don't think you've gone through every club there or even scratched the surface. Nor do I think winning a relegation final to stay senior could be compared with FMGs lot. They were absolutely pitiful in the Intermediate semi this year. They've gone back so much, had super u21 teams about ten yrs ago, have a big population but have regressed so much in recent years. Even Clonguish had to loose that relegation final they'd be straight back up in 12 months time. Kilashee is very rural and not a great example to use as they always struggled for numbers.

To beat Roscommon, Mayo, Galway& Kerry in any competition is a huge achievement in itself. I'm not even sure if Kildare could have managed that. Injuries were the difference today. I've always said that there is too much emphasis/pressure on goalkeepers in today's game and it comes from this insatiable obsession with statistics and keeping possession.. Outfield players make mistakes all the time which don't necessarily seem costly but a keeper makes one and it is deemned costly. Every one of those Sligo players should be proud of their achievements.. Who'd have ever thought that they would be contesting an All Ireland final. Well done to yee all and mgmt team.

Conor Laverty And Under 20S Rule - 1 Like(s)
It's one of these rules that the gaa hierarchy have conjured up as PR exercise about how they care for player welfare.. Well if this is the case then how come these young lads in the absolute peak of their condition are allowed train with seniors and U-20 teams all winter only to be outdone by what may or may not happen i.e. both a senior and U20 game fixed within the week. So if you are not from Co. Down this may not necessarily be an issue. Its another decision that coukd not possibly have an explanation. The Gaa decision makers are choking our brilliant organisation.

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "Mayo just hadn't got what it took to win and God knows they had enough chances, I can't remember now which year it was, so many lost finals they all blur together but Mayo might have been 3 or 4 points up might have been around the 60 min mark and Keegan is through just in the scoring zone and he drops his kick short into the keepers hands, you just kind of knew then that they were going to lose again, when he couldn't seal the deal and kill the game and he was their main driving force really then you could see the confidence start to seep out of them. Late Late interview and now we can look forward to enjoying his dulcid tones on the Sunday Game, subtitles available I hope. Imagine what we'd have had to endure on Rte if they had ever actually won the thing? Thank God for small mercies."
