Replying To DroimIarainn:  "Cringe, cringe. I presume there's an equivalent thread on a rugby forum discussing GAA. Fat chance!"
Possibly...mocking our association, no doubt.

Replying To Cuhullain:  "Fantastic win for the moors, I can't see why the winners of the moors and rathnew can't at least get to the leinster final and possibly clinch it."
...particularly when whoever wins that semifinal will have qualified for the Leinster final ;-)

Christy Ring 2020 - 5 Like(s)

Replying To sponger:  "Roscommon vs Wicklow today. 11 minutes of injury time played after 4 were announced. A goal that followed on from a shot that had first gone wide. Will anybody care ? No, because its the Christy Ring."
Not even listed on the HS Match Tracker...nor were the 2 McDonagh Cup fixtures. Even Div 4 football is more important.

Can someone tell me a country that has an anthem that's not 'outdated'?

I agree with Tom. On Sunday & Monday, RTE Radio1 & Newstalk were giving full-on previews of the 'upcoming' Six Nations. It's months away FFS!!!

Can the GAA survive the Rugby onslaught - 3 Like(s)

Replying To MesAmis:  "The friendlies in rugby are quite important because there are so few teams competing at international level in a meaningful way. If there were more teams they'd have bigger competitions and therefore wouldn't have those big friendly games."
The friendlies in rugby are quite important because there are so few teams competing at international level in a meaningful way. If there were more teams they'd have bigger competitions and therefore wouldn't have those big friendly games. I don't think a rugby test match is is comparable to a soccer friendly (where players usually swan around taking great care not to get injured). You're right about the number of competitive teams in World Rugby, however. There are just 9 - the Six Nations, not including Italy, & the 4 Rugby Championship teams. This means to keep the whole show on the road (players, coaching staff, TV, media, sponsorship etc.) these teams have to play in one proper tournament, a summer tour & the autumn internationals in what is a perpetual merry-go-round until the RWC comes around again.

I think we all agree that the GAA are lacking in their Marketing Department. On media bias we disagree. There are already threads about that.

Replying To liner:  "Ok start at no 1 and check his county of origin. SInce when did the truth become disrespectful."
His county of origin is irrelevant if he's playing his club hurling in Mayo. You're obviously one of these football people who see hurling as a threat. Mayo Hurlers - 3 Like(s)

Replying To liner:  "Some hail from real hurling counties and some from Dublin."
One player on the starting 15 hurling in Galway. The 2 McManus lads are hurling for St. Jude's in Dublin are probably originally from Mayo. So your remark is disrespectful considering there are only 4 hurling clubs operating at adult level in the county.

"So why the double standards? Where are the many doctors and others who had plenty to say about the GAA, yet appear tongue-tied when it comes to rugby?" Most of the doctors complaining probably played rugby. And no rugby journalist will highlight the issue. In fact, the first thing the Indo wrote about our RWC bid was how much the GAA potentially stood to make from it. You never hear about the IRFU's bonanzas. Just to clarify, I'm not anti-rugby I just feel strongly about the prevailing imbalance.

Replying To GreenandRed:  "Plenty of GAA fans would. And they'd be aware of the magnificent exploits of our dualstar Keith Higgins in hurling final replay. Whatever about the football final in Mayo not many neutrals, including GAA fans, would have much interest in the Mayo hurling replay."
More's the pity.

Peter McKenna hits back at Michael Duignan - 3 Like(s)
Just 4 years ago, before the SKY deal, Dublin drew with Kilkenny in the Leinster hurling semi-final. Dublin went on to win the replay beating Cats in championship for the first time in 50 odd years. Neither game was televised by RTE (or TV3). Where was Michael Duignan's outrage then? It was hardly mentioned because RTE couldn't (then or now) show EVERY match that people want to see. In fact, there was only one camera in O'Moore Park which made the highlights of those games almost unwatchable. Let that sink in, folks.

No Tricolour or National Anthem at GAA Matches - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Offside_Rule:  "Nobody is talking about shame or lack of pride. This isn't about the founding principles of the GAA. This is talking about a hypothetical situation where the Country is on the verge of becoming Unified again. Are people suggesting in that situation they would not support such a move if there was to be a new Anthem and Flag or would they demand that the GAA keeps the existing Anthem and Flag in this new Ireland with its new Anthem and Flag? Remembering before you answer that the GAA was founded before Flag flew from the GPO and before the Anthem was penned!!"
Why is anyone even talking about this hypothetical situation? Is there any suggestion this could even come about in the near future?

Hurling - Mind The Gap - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Viking66:  "Makes sense. 1 week isn't enough."
Correct. Longford hurlers played their last league group game then played league semifinal, then the final, then 1st round of Lory Meagher, all on consecutive weekends. I think they played 7 weekends in-a-row before having a weekend off. No top tier county would be expected to do this!!
