Limerick stayed on course for their first back-to-back All-Ireland SHC triumph after brushing aside Waterford by 1-25 to 0-17 in this evening’s semi-final at Croke Park.
The Treaty men pulled away after the first water break to outscore their opponents by 0-11 to 0-3 and lead by eight points at the interval.
The advantage was stretched out to 10 early in the restart before points from Calum Lyon, Stephen Bennett (2) and Dessie Hutchinson brought the Deise men back into contention (0-19 to 0-13).
However, the Shannonsiders soon shut the door on their fellow Munster men when a stray sideline puck was picked up and fed into Aaron Gillane who hammered in the game’s only goal just before the second water break.
There was no coming back for Liam Cahill’s men from there and they’d even be denied a late consolation goal after a superb save from Nickie Quaid in the Treaty men’s goal.
The only downside for the Liam MacCarthy Cup holders this evening was the red card picked up by Peter Casey in the 59th minute which, as it stands, will rule the attacker out of the All-Ireland final against either Kilkenny or Cork on August 22nd.
