Monaghan star Kieran Hughes says he and his Scotstown team mates will have “one hell of an uphill task” on their hands when they look to dethrone Glen in next month’s Ulster club SFC final.

The Farney County champions booked their place into the provincial decider thanks to a dramatic extra time victory over Trillick (0-17 to 1-13) at Armagh’s Athetic Grounds.

Speaking to BelfastLive.co.uk after that win, Hughes said that conquering the Derry club side in the northern province is next on the agenda as they seek a first Seamus McFerran Cup triumph in 34 years.

“Glen are the best team in Ulster. They were very unlucky to lose against Kilmacud last year. It is very easy to praise them, but it is the only thing you can do,” he said.

“Between themselves and Kilcoo, they’ve been the top dogs in Ulster. It is about trying to figure out how we stop them getting quick attacks.

“Malachy (O’Rourke) will have his work to do on us and we’ve plenty of knowledge in our camp too. Malachy and the Glen boys would have had a good look at us and they’ll be planning their attack. That’s what football is about - trying to get the small percentages right to get over the line.

“It is going to be one hell of an uphill task to beat them, but we are ready to compete in this competition and I want that to be the case next time.”
