Former Cork star Donal Og Cusack is predicting Galway to dethrone Kilkenny this weekend and capture their fourth Leinster senior hurling championship title.

The Tribesmen have not lifted the Bob O’Keeffe Cup since 2018 and are 4/5 favourites to do so on Sunday at Croke Park against the Cats who are bidding for their fourth consecutive provincial crown and 75th overall.

Writing for RTE Sport ahead of this weekend’s Leinster and Munster hurling finals, Cusack said that a win might mean more to Henry Shefflin’s side at this point in time.

“Kilkenny's loss the last day to a manic Wexford menace is more explicable than Galway's meek first half against Dublin,” wrote the former Rebels goalkeeper.

“The men in maroon likely need the boost of a big performance more than the stripey men do right now.

“Kilkenny must look at TJ Reid's scoring stats from play in the games against Galway, Dublin and Wexford and wonder if time is catching up with the great one at last.

“Galway get the verdict as it might matter more to them.”
