Limerick had reason to feel hard done by after HawkEye wasn't called upon to adjudicate on a controversial Kilkenny point in yesterday's All-Ireland U20HC final at FBD Semple Stadium.

Both Limerick manager Diarmuid Mullins and his Kilkenny counterpart Derek Lyng questioned why the score detection system wasn't used when Kilkenny's Paddy Langton was awarded a 20th minute point, despite Limerick goalkeeper Conor Hanley-Clarke appearing to prevent the ball from going over the bar. It ultimately proved decisive as Kilkenny went on to win by the bare minimum - 0-19 to 0-18.

"I'm not going to make excuses around it," Mullins told TG4.

"I'm sure there's Hawkeye for the second game (Tipperary vs Cork in the Munster SHC), so why wouldn't it be in use for the first game? It would be disappointing if that's the case.

"I don't think it comes down to that point, but equally, we would have preferred if it wasn't given. From the sideline, it looked like Conor controlled it, but the umpire was right beside it. If he made a mistake, it's a poor mistake to make from there, but nobody goes out to intentionally make a mistake like that."

Kilkenny boss Lyng commented: "In a one-point game, they would (feel aggrieved).

"I'll have to get my head around that one. For now, there's nothing we can do about it anyway. They have Hawkeye here, so they should be getting it right."
