Ballygunner manager Jason Ryan was full of praise for Pauric Mahony and his team-mates after their Munster club SHC semi-final victory over Sarsfields.

The long-serving sharpshooter converted 10 frees from 10 after recovering from the ankle injury that forced him to sit out the quarter-final win over Na Piarsaigh a fortnight ago.

“He’s just so composed,” the former Wexford football boss told the media as the Gunners progressed to their eighth straight provincial final against Éire Óg, Ennis.

"He sees things before other people do and he reads the game so well. I’ve made the comment so many times about this group that they’re doing most of the coaching.

“They’re doing most of the leadership, they’re changing things on the field. That’s the way it should be. The players are tweaking things on the field as they see them. He’s just a very talented guy and we’re delighted that he’s back.”

Ballygunner were 4-18 to 2-17 winners in the newly-named Azzurri Walsh Park as they exacted revenge for last year’s Munster final defeat to the Cork champions and Ryan added: “We’re playing in Waterford, we’re really proud Waterford people and we want to represent the county. The guys have had a really good record of getting to quite a few Munster finals in-a-row.

“They want to keep chasing after that, they’re very proud of the wins that they’ve had and they want to get back there.”
