Tipperary’s Billy Seymour struck for 0-11 as TUS Midwest recorded a 0-24 to 0-16 victory over TU Dublin last night in Moylish to keep their hopes of reaching the Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-finals alive.

It was a game which saw Seymour's Tipp team mate Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher playing the full 60 minutes for the Dublin side, marking his first competitive game in almost eight months after damaging his Achilles in training last summer.

The Limerick side hit the ground running in this one, with early points from Seymour, Evan Fitzpatrick and Shane Taylor setting the tone for them as they went on to lead by 0-8 to 0-3 after the opening quarter.

Thomas Douglas and Eoghan Dunne pulled back scores for TU Dublin but their opponents shot over the next five unanswered to take in a 0-13 to 0-9 lead at the half.

Ger Veale would have a goal chance for the Dublin students in the second-half but was denied spectacularly by ‘keeper Cian Broderick.

TUS Midwest could even afford to see wing forward Taylor sent off in the 42nd minute, as Seymour’s points helped guide them to an eight-point win to bounce back from last week’s 30-point loss to UL.

Meanwhile, in Santry Avenue, MTU Cork came up with the goods late on to see off Trinity College by 1-22 to 1-16 to book thier place in the quarter-finals of the competition. 

Cork panellist Sean O’Leary-Hayes had helped Trinity to lead by 0-14 to 1-7 at the half and they'd be up by two with seven minutes remaining before Alan Walsh's flicked goal inspired the Cork students to victory.
