Cathal Naughton scored two crucial late points and Cormac O'Brien notched 1-4 as Newtownshandrum produced an outstanding display to dump Glen Rovers out of the Cork SHC race with a 1-23 to 0-23 victory in last night's quarter-final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Newtown held off a spirited comeback from Glen, having led by 1-12 to 0-10 at half-time and opened up a seven-point lead after the break before Eoin Downey pointed the 2021 beaten finalists to the front for the first time in the 50th minute.

But the north Cork outfit refused to give in as Jamie Coughlan and Cathal Naughton, back from a stint in Australia, stepped up to the mark in the closing stages to help Newtown secure a place in the last four after an eleven-year absence.
