After opening their season with a Kehoe Cup defeat to Meath yesterday, the Down hurlers are in action again this evening in the Conor McGurk Cup.
Ronan Sheehan's charges will have an immediate opportunity to bounce back from their 1-16 to 2-24 loss to the Royals when they take on Queen's in the McGurk Cup quarter-final clash at the Dub (7.30pm).
The first two McGurk Cup quarter-finals took place on Saturday and saw Donegal and Ulster University defeat Monaghan and Fermanagh respectively.
At the Donegal GAA Centre, Brian McIntyre and Richie Ryan were in fine scoring form as Donegal recorded a facile 3-31 to 0-8 victory. Monaghan were already a beaten docket at half-time when they trailed by a 0-4 to 3-17. Meanwhile, Ulster University recovered from a 0-8 to 2-11 half-time deficit to beat Fermanagh by 1-21 to 2-15.
Goals from Brian Teehan and Caolan Duffy had the Ernemen in control at the break, but a goal from substitute Fearghal McManus aided the students' second half comeback.
