Liatroim became the first Down side to capture the Ulster club intermediate hurling championship title this afternoon thanks to a 2-20 to 0-20 victory over Middletown (Armagh).
Goals from Conor McCrickard and PJ Davidson proved the difference for the Mourne men as they wrote themselves into the history books at Corrigan Park in west Belfast.
McCrickard came after 22 minutes and sent Liatroim a 1-11 to 0-9 half-time advantage.
It took two minutes of the resumption for the leaders to find Middletown’s net again, with Davidson supplying the cool finish which had his side eight points to the good.
The Orchard County champions fought to the finish with late points from Nathan Curry and Cahal Carville (2), but Liatroim were not to be denied on this occasion.
