Longford GAA is mourning the passing of Johnny Marlowe, who has been described as "one of the great characters" of the local GAA scene.

A proud Kenagh clubman, Johnny served the club at all levels and was known for his razor-sharp wit. He also acted as umpire for referee John Bannon when he took charge of the 1998 and 2002 All-Ireland football finals.

“Kenagh GAA are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our former player and long time games official and friend Johnny Marlowe. To his wife Pauline, his children, family & friends, Kenagh GAA extend our deepest sympathies," his club said.
