Henry Shefflin has stepped down from his role as senior hurling manager of Ballyhale Shamrocks.

The 10-time All-Ireland SHC winner’s second stint over his home club lasted one season and saw the team capturing a record 21st Kilkenny senior hurling title before they lost out in the Leinster club championship final to St Martin’s of Wexford by a point last month.

September saw Shefflin named as Kilkenny’s new U20 hurling boss and Ballyhale chairman Aidan Cummins says it was a factor in the Cats legend’s decisions to vacate his post with the Shamrocks.

"Henry is manager of the Under-20 hurling side for the county and is starting a new business so it's understandable he can't maintain everything,” Cummins told RTE Sport.

"We set out a goal at the start of the year to be competitive again and achieved the Leinster win. We're very thankful to Henry and his backroom teams and wish him well in everything he is doing going forward."
