Any Good GAA Books? - 4 Like(s)

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "I read Tomás Ó Sé's 'The White heat' book recently, I didn't like it at all, half of it was rambling on about his uncle Paidi and it was all very repetitive.
One things for sure, not being able to beat Tyrone in Croke park in those big games in 03. 05 and 08 still rankles with them down in Kerry.
Biggest regret I have with Donegal is we didn't beat them in that '14 final, we played absolute rubbish that day,
still though that's sport, you have to do it on the day."
I thought Donegal played well in 2014 final. The mistake the goalie made in his poor kick out, resulting in Donaghy's goal, gifted the game to Kerry.

Gough referee? Memory I have of him is during Cork/Kerry round robin game, awarding black card, and penalty given against Seán Powter for tackle on Geaney outside the box!

Football Better Than Hurling In 2025? Thank You Jim Gavin, - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "Yes well done to the FRC and Jim Gavin for heading it up, don't forget they had our own Michael Murphy onboard to develop the new rules,
the man helps invents a new game to suit himself, then comes out of retirement to play it and then win another All Ireland medal for himself, lol
it will be a hell of a story if it happens!"
Whatever about Michael Murphy, his appeal is dwarfed by the appeal of David Clifford. The guy is a joy to watch and when he's in full flow, is impossible to mark. The fact that 2 footballing teams are contesting all Ireland makes it a desirable spectacle for the neutral. As for hurling, the goal getting prowess of both Cork and Tipp will make for an intriguing spectacle!

Replying To tireoghainabu:  "I see we have fans of "Genocide Joe" on here as well. When will people realise that both Republicans and Democrats are joined at the hip when it comes to Israel,"
That's correct. There is a huge Jewish lobby in the USA, from both sides of the aisle. Israel will always be supported, and it is noteworthy that billions in aid to Israel is never questioned as government waste. Why so many American made 2000 lb bombs were dropped on Gaza escapes me. Hamas are still there, unless the plan all along was to make Gaza uninhabitable, relocate Palestinians to another country, and that's the final solution!

Clare V Cork - All Ireland Hurling Final 2024 - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Viking66:  "Ah lad it's only having the craic! I was on the Dart after the game heading for Dun Laoghaire and got talking to a young lad from Cork, who started the conversation by laughing at my Wexford top. We were all wedged together like sardines. He's a friend of Ciaran Joyce and hurls for Castlemartyr. He was very knowledgeable for a young lad, and good craic for 20 minutes though slightly the worse for drink! I didn't get thick with him for laughing, so neither should you!"
You're just an attention seeker. Wexford haven't won all Ireland since 1996, so you follow Limerick. Yeah, who cares if you wear Wexford shirt to All Ireland, gives you something to post about here. Hoganstand needs you. Ha ha

The Matchday Train Peculiarity - 2 Like(s)

Replying To hyperache:  "The main issue with trains is the overcrowding and general lack of them. Everyone flocks off and back on in Drumcondra and it's a general s***show. The public transport in Dublin is just about adequate but is absolutely shocking everywhere else, so can't imagine the hassle in having to come up from outside Dublin without driving. And if you do drive, there's nowhere to park haha, it's a nightmare."
GAA should move all games to PUC!

Whatever about Clare being robbed last Sunday , the only time a robbery definitely took place at a Munster Final was in 1977 in Thurles between Cork and Clare. Cork won the game but armed robbers made off with the gate receipts!

Will Rugby World Cup Harm Gaa. - 2 Like(s)
Don't understand this animosity towards rugby. Do rugby supporters demonstrate similar dislike to GAA? I don't think so! Probably because they are performing with a fine team in an international arena, and in a sport that's thriving, whilst GAA supporters still whine about demographics and where they went to school . I enjoy watching all sports and glad that rugby is one of them. Whether Keith Earls is from Moyross or Timbuktu has no relevance to me, as long as he plays well!

Massive game against South Africa. They probably will whack the **** out of each other, so I hope Ireland are strong going into Scotland game. France or NZ await in any quarter final. Ridiculous seeding as in contrast English have a soft route to quarter finals and should be fresher, with the ability to peak at optimum time. Bundee Aki is playing rugby of his life, and if Ireland continue to excel in line outs, I give them every chance! Roll on Saturday!

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  ""Social conditions and lack of education or the inability to see the world in the round can determine how extreme our views can become"
It's the arrogance of the left/woke that bugs me, they try and put anyone who opposes their left wing views as the uneducated far right,
ignoring and trying to trample down the views of the common people is having the opposite effect of what you woke lefties are trying to achieve.
On a sperate note the 'coalition of the willing' the Brits and others are talking about for Ukraine, where is the coalition of the willing talk to protect the innocents in Gaza?"
Trump has a vision of transforming GAZA into Dubai, and to accomplish this, he would need to demolish GAZA completely before starting construction. It's a real estate deal, and the fact that there are 2 million Palestinians in the way, doesn't faze him or Netanyahu, who are razing GAZA to the ground. Trump and his cohorts are busy enriching themselves, his recent dismissal of tech tariffs, his adulation of tech oligarchs, his insider trading will definitely benefit his circle. He is brave in dealing with Palestinians and Iran, but caves to Russia and China. His MAGA is a joke!

Replying To foreveryoung:  "And in the football versus Kerry, it will be the opposite. Cork will be beaten a score a man and subs-21 point win for Kerry."
What a forecast by this individual! 15 point win by Cork against Clare in hurling, and a 21 point win for Kerry against Cork in football. I guess he's an American, so that's an obvious excuse!

Senior Football Championship 2024 - 2 Like(s)

Replying To foreveryoung:  "Congrats to Armagh, Donegal, Galway, and Kerry on making the semi-finals. These four teams in the main kick the ball quite a lot (although Kerry seemed less inclined to do that against Derry), so we should have two good games. Kerry are probably rubbing their hands at Dublin being knocked out and must be considered favorites for Sam now.

However, if Armagh bring their A game, then it is possible that they will be the ones to end up in the final. How Galway are fixed for injuries could well decide the other semi-final. Donegal are flying it, but with a full side, especially Shane Walsh and Comer, I'd expect Galway's greater experience to just get them over the line.

A final word to say what campions and ambassadors of the game Dublin have been over the past decade and more. A few of those players are among the true greats of the game."
Mr. Forever Young has drastically changed his opinion on Donegal in a few short weeks. After the defeat to Cork, he was on the Donegal forum ridiculing Donegal, and forecasting demise of McGuinness!

Replying To OpenStand:  "Should this match have gone ahead ? And when it was a draw at full time would a replay not be fairer than playing in insane conditions people were warned to not drive unnecessary journeys ??"
Rain has never stopped football. Scotstown and Glen also served up an entertaining game. Michael Hurley getting injured early on was a blow to 'Haven, but they hung in there, and Damien Cahalane was the hero in the penalty shootout. He saved a penalty and scored 2. I believe his history as underage goalie with Greenmount was the reason he donned the goalkeeper jersey for penalties. He's an excellent footballer!!

No… Jim Barry was manager in 1966. Limerick knocked Tipp out in first round, paving the way for Cork to win.
