Cork senior hurling captain Darragh Fitzgibbon has been ruled out for the remainder of his team’s Munster championship campaign due to a case of appendicitis.
After having undergone surgery yesterday, Fitzgibbon now faces at least a month-long spell on the sidelines, according to a report from EchoLive.ie.
The Rebels are due to face Clare in their last provincial round-robin game next Sunday and will be hoping for a return to the Munster final on June 7th.
It means that their skipper will be aiming for a return to action in the All-Ireland series, with a third-place finish in the Munster SHC or a loss in its final seeing Ben O’Connor’s side out on the weekend of June 20/21.
Victory in the Munster final would see the Leesiders straight into the All-Ireland SHC semi-finals on the weekend of July 4/5.
