Clare held off a late push from Wexford in Ennis this afternoon to win their sixth consecutive game in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League.

The already promoted Banner men signed off in the group stage of the league’s second tier with a 0-26 to 1-20 win in the end, inflicting the Slaneysiders with their first defeat of the campaign which now leaves Dublin in pole position for promotion as a win in Carlow the weekend after next will see them up to Division 1A.

Brian Lohan’s side got out to a 0-8 to 0-4 lead after the opening 20 minutes, with Peter Duggan and Diarmuid Stritch in fine shooting form early on for them, and scores from David Reidy and Shane Meehan would help them to hold a 0-15 to 0-9 advantage at the break.

Lee Chin and Simon Roche sailed over early second-half scores for the visitors and they’d eventually narrow their deficit down to three after back-to-back points from Chin (free) were followed up by a Roche goal in the 57th minute.

Roche and Chin (free) raised more white flags to make it a one-point game on the hour mark ahead of Duggan’s free steadying the ship for Clare and late points from Ian Galvin (2) and Ryan Taylor would see them over the line.
