Clare gave Kildare football a much-needed boost when they won the Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé senior men’s final in West Kerry last weekend.

In what was the 35th edition of the famed club ladies and men’s Gaelic football tournament, Clane registered an emphatic 5-16 to 0-6 final victory over Courtwood of Laois. Burrishoole of Mayo were crowned ladies senior champions following a 0-13 to 0-6 win over holders Clonguish of Longford in the decider.

Managed by Dublin cult hero Joe McNally, St Anne’s defeated Ballycumber of Offaly 4-20 to 2-9 in the intermediate men’s final, while Galbally of Limerick edged out Cahir from Tipperary 2-8 to 0-13 in the junior men’s final.

Sligo’s Eoghan Rua beat St Maur’s of Dublin 3-4 to 0-5 to claim intermediate ladies honours, while Round Towers of London captured the junior ladies title.

Founded by eight-time All-Ireland winner Páidí Ó Sé, the football festival is supported by Lidl Ireland, EJ Menswear, Kerry County Council Tourism Unit, Fáilte Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta, and has attracted over 20,000 club players since it was founded in 1989.
