In the parish ya have Cremartin and Doohamlet. Doohamlet got relegated from senior to Intermediate this. There is no town team is a rural area that happen to produce excellent footballers and a never say die attitude. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1948 - 05/11/2014 20:18:39 1669982 Link 0 |
32 Clubs in Monaghan so 10 teams at Senior probaly works well. Co board has a very laissez attidude letting clubs ie: Mountugent up to Intermediate without winnig Junior and Crosserlough up to Senior without winning Intermediate championship, If that is suppose to improve the standard it didn't work, FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 05/11/2014 21:21:30 1670004 Link 0 |
There are only 29 football clubs in Monaghan, split with 10 Senior, 10 Intermediate and 10 Junior. Scotstown also have a team in the Junior league. I subscribe with the theory that Town teams can never garnish the commitment and passion that rural teams can, not in Monaghan anyway. drumlinbelt (Monaghan) - Posts: 179 - 07/11/2014 13:10:20 1670434 Link 0 |
The same in Cavan probaly, but then hard to know as there hasn't much to shout about from Cavan clubs in Ulster. Each team would train as hard as the next, maybe more toughness to a rural team. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 07/11/2014 14:31:26 1670469 Link 0 |
I'm inclined to agree with drumlinbelt that rural clubs have greater intensity and commitment although I always thought Kingscourt and Ramor had all that in their good years. I suppose you can't generalise like that and plenty of people will disagree. RoyalBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 198 - 07/11/2014 20:35:23 1670586 Link 0 |
But a big enthusiasm to knock the Senior Co management when a few results go wrong. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 07/11/2014 21:49:45 1670602 Link 0 |
Good luck to Cavan Gaels tomorrow. Not many on here wishing them luck but there will be plenty of begrudgers and no alls here if they get bet. dirtybag (Cavan) - Posts: 242 - 08/11/2014 19:17:07 1670727 Link 0 |
Good luck to the Gaels. I think they will be up against it, they have had more physical teams in the past and that didn't go well, this it a more lighter team, and wet conditions may not suit them. But we'll see. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 09/11/2014 09:41:53 1670787 Link 0 |
Best of luck to the Gaels. I'd worry about their physicality this year; they almost came a cropper against Lacken in the Quarter-Final when they had to deal with the strength of the Lacken team in the drawn game. Conditions were very good that night unlike to day. Should be a good football game all the same. RoyalBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 198 - 09/11/2014 12:28:11 1670815 Link 0 |
5pts down at half time. 9 to 4. johnston with 3, Meehan with 1. Surely they have to bring on Dunne... wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1731 - 09/11/2014 15:33:44 1670854 Link 0 |
im sick to death of cavan teams losing these tight games. Stand up taller and go out and win the bloody thing. nobody remembers the brave losers. its happened all to much recently. blueskies (Cavan) - Posts: 197 - 09/11/2014 16:29:38 1670863 Link 0 |
Thats our three champions gone, 4 games between the 3 of them. speaks volumes about the quality of our County championships. Not good enough roamin_bullocks (Cavan) - Posts: 6 - 09/11/2014 19:05:28 1670922 Link 0 |
Listening to the game on the radio the damage was done in the first half, 5pts at half time down and making costly mistakes. A gallant fightback in the second half, maybe Slaughtneill eased up too. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 09/11/2014 20:38:01 1670946 Link 0 |
The Gaels I felt were better equipped for a challange at an Ulster title a few years ago when they had the likes of Enda King Cormac Nelligan, Sean Reilly, Gavin Duffy, Pauric Smith Darren Rabbite, Physical players but good footballers too FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 10/11/2014 17:26:25 1671191 Link 0 |
Foolsgold they are an average team with nothing to offer. You are right they had their chance several years ago blew it with very poor discipline tried to tell the referee how to do his job. Sadly that ill discipline is still there and will be going forward. Peter Canavan has got on his CV he brought a team to a senior championship and won it, there will be nothing to say he lost first round in Ulster. This part of the forum is very quiet now isn't it mowbar (Cavan) - Posts: 452 - 11/11/2014 18:51:56 1671555 Link 0 |
It's a pity for the Gaels that they didn't had that those players now, as Ulster was there for the taking this year, all the remaining teams have never won Ulster Club. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2878 - 11/11/2014 20:18:19 1671597 Link 0 |
