Ulster SFC 2015. Cavan v Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Jon,

He was one of our best players in 2013 when we had our good spell, he could also double up as an option at full forward, played there against Meath in the league in 2013 and did well. He could kick scores from range which is vital against blanket defences. Could field ball better than any other player in that panel. Lets face it we're not blessed with physicality, and that was never as clear as when we were literally brushed aside by Tyrone in the McKenna cup game (meaningless game I know, but it showed our lack of physicality).

Anyway, this topic is neither here nor there at this stage, no point in talking about what if's.

Anybody watching the div 2 league final? Dire stuff. Gaelic Football is in trouble.

"I have seen nothing from Givney that makes me wish he was still with the squad."

Jon , in all fairness I think you need to revise that statement . It's a 20 man game and while you may have some valid points regarding first 15 that statement is just wrong . Our midfield is hardly firing on all cylinders since he left either and he would be a great option to keep lads on their toes if only bringing him off the bench . You cannot deny his power and physicality , an area we are hardly blessed in , and on this alone would easily be in the first 20 . Regarding the Derry game I am of no doubt that if he had not came back on in the second half we would not have got to extra time . You can hand out all the laurels you want for our extra time performances but no one will change my mind on that .

I hope you're right in saying that our defence is fairly solid because I have seen a few cracks in the league and our full back is being exposed a lot more than makes me comfortable . Some will say this is a sacrifice to committing more men forward but I would be a lot happier going into the Monaghan game if Alan Clarke was wearing the number 6 .

Please mods, let mowbar post his 5 county standard players that should be on the panel. I'd love to know, I'm sure Terry Hyland would too.

Givney was a ball winner which we need in the middle of the field or even full forward line. He was a strong physical player who added a lot to our midfield.
Our mid filed has been very much hit and miss all year. We need the like of Givney, Keating,Clarke etc as they had strength and more important experience.

I'm not being negative but i cannot honestly see any sector of the field where we are stronger than Monaghan. There are a number of individual players who may have the upper hand but we are definitely the underdog which will suit us.

I'm told Givney is due to have the cast off his ankle shortly and will obviously have to go through rehab strengthening and then regain fittness.
Hopefully we see him on a football field next year.

The problem fredflint I named 11 and would have others but I have forgotten their names plus two of the management team that are not good enough, and in response to your piece above he knows who they are for they walked from the set up or he dropped them. ????

So you know 11 players who are not on the panel but you have forgotten their names? Is that why you simply cannot post their names on here??

Looking at the div 3 league final I'd say we are in for a dour boreing Ulster Championship.... On another note I see that Roscommon have provided 3 out of the top 10 scoreres in the div.2 league which is why they ended up winning it...but not a sign of a Cavan player which relates to the different approach addopted by the respective managers.... One has an attacking ploicy and the other has a "bore you to tears" policy.... Ahh well Terry knows best....!!!!!!!

Indeed Sean, it's long been known that the team with the most players in the top eight top scorers chart are the best in the division. Let us delve deeper on the exact same page as you're likely to have seen this information:

In Division 1 - Donegal and Kerry are the only teams with two players in the rankings. Both finished in the bottom half.
In Division 2 - As above replacing the two first Division teams with Sligo and Clare.

This stat must be specific to division 2 only. What would have happened had all fourteen outfield Cavan players placed joint ninth in the standing. You'd be in a terrible pickle.

Ah well, Sean knows best. Statity stat.

I named 11 people that are or should not be there BUT Mr Hoganstand will not publish them. I named players that should be there and they also were not posted so step off your high horse and come down to ground zero before you get a heart attack. This is my last post on this subject because you can say what you like yet my posts either get edited or not posted so in my case a lost cause.

Skelling.... You are talking rubbish... My post related to our style of play and the different mindset of the managers but you couldnt pick that up... I will post more simple versions in future for those slow on the uptake....

No Sean, you most definitely said "On another note I see that Roscommon have provided 3 out of the top 10 scoreres in the div.2 league which is why they ended up winning it."

What message am I missing in that line that I haven't referred to in my post?

I'm not sure how I could be talking rubbish when I didn't give a view. I merely picked holes in your post.

I'd also argue Roscommon were the most negative team we played. Also played the game on a tiny pitch.

Can anyone tell me why we are preparing to play a Division 1 team, who finished in the top four in the country in the league, by playing two Division 4 teams?

In previous years, Cavan played very few challenge matches ahead of the championship but the players are now going to play 4 in the space of just a month. Seems to be a marked departure from previous years.

I see no problem with it but I don't see the point in playing New York and London. What will matches against cannon fodder tell us about the team?

Mowbar. Your last word is just as inciteful as your other posts. If you put down 5 names it would be printed, your not man enough to do it.

Skelling... Your talking rubbish when u say " what if 14 Cavan players end up joint 9th place". What garbish... You still dont get my point so I will waste no more time with you...

Lads I don't lads being named on this forum is fair on amateurs who put in huge commitment and sacrafice. The New York trip was obviously played and the reason for London is Lorcan Mulvey. Also playing Meath. Usually play a higher valibre challenge but Meath game will help that I suppose.

These challenge games v New York and London are part of a grand plan to catch Monaghan off guard.... It puts Monaghan tangling with Dublin in the half-penny place...!!!!!!!

We could do with Mulvey more than London could. Honestly believe there is a pace for him in our ff line.

Ned.... Lorcan would have walked long ago as there would never be a ball kicked into him.... He is prob enjoying his football with London....
