Deanmartin using the statistics arguement to suit his own agenda. Didn't score in a half of football but he conviently forgets the brilliant football in first half. Also shows himself clueless on Cavan in general. He seems to know all about Monaghan in Portugal but makes assumptions about Cavan's trip away. FYI they had serious tough trainings and the players definitly deserve the change of scenery. Only one goal scored in league. Good man another stat. No mention of the fact we produced countless goal chances. We play a defensive game with a quick counter attack. It's not as lateral as last year. I'll not use stats to justify my point just the fact I've being to every league game and judge on what I say. You don't like the style of football. Boo hoo. Probably showing your age there. You say negative, I say tactically aware. They don't have to entertain. You want entertainment go to the theatre. As for tactics I hope we're very negative and even more so against Monaghan because it's the only hope we'll have of stopping McManus. No one good enough to go toe to toe individually with him. And Cavan played the poorest teams in the country? Jesus wept division 2 football contains the weakest teams in the country??? Not division 4?

Quick point on JonSmiths point about half forwards not having power. Mackey is probably the strongest player on Cavan panel. Ask any of the players. What he lifts is scary.

Had to add my bit here because it is becoming nauseating reading some of these posts. Cavan flew out to new york last Wednesday on a 7 hour flight which means they lost a day with jet lag, as the flights and itinerary were paid for by a very decent ex-pat it meant that there where a lot of meet and greet sessions especially up in Rockland were there is a very strong GAA base and Cavan community, they played 2 games, one on Thursday and another on Sunday evening so I find it very hard to see how this trip was anything more than a very expensive PR, fundraising P1ss up before the championship which luckily was paid for by a decent ex-pat from Cavan.

Monaghan flew to portugal, very short flight, milder weather than New York, shorter flight, less expensive, no distractions like the big ex-pat community that the Cavan lads had distracting them stateside. Monaghan came back and nearly beat the Dubs in croker so I do not give us a prayer against them. Our goal is to win a game in the Ulster Championship, Monaghans is to beat the big teams in Croker. We are way off their level. Any dreamers out there need to cop on to this pretty quickly.

It's what professionals do in other sports. You honestly believe Monaghan didn't touch a drop for their trip? As I said I believe if we stop McManus we have a chance. That's a big if. Always have to go into a game with some hope.

Just read the Anglo Celt last night. One breadth of fresh air is Michael Hannon, he has never been afraid to make his point or raise criticism, his article in this weeks paper was excellent, and some points raised that should make the County Board take notice.

Also, from recollection, we were told that the trip was fully funded by an ex-pat from Ballinagh, but then we had the ex-chairman, Tom O Reilly, who was apparently invited by Terry Hyland to accompany team, given his association with them over the last few years, and Tom tell us that he held a raffle out there that made them 10k that totally covered the costs of the County Board.

Madge, strange choice in goals. farrelly hasn't started any league games and played neither of the games in New York (from what I read).

I'm not convinced by him- he just makes too many errors at vital times. Monaghans keeper is a match winner in comparison, probably their most important player after McManus

Would like to see Argue or Clarke (or both) pushed into full forward line at some stage. We will be facing a very small full back line and that should be exploited

By the way, if you sit for 7 hours on a plane it's still 7 hours no matter what direction you travel in. Terry has achieved a lot in his time but bending the space-time continuum is beyond even him.

Ned_Stormcrow - let me clarify as you seem to have difficulty getting the message that I was trying to get across.

Trip to New York was sold as a training camp, how can you have a meaningfull training camp when you travel 3000 Miles, play 2 Challenge games against a group of average club footballers, attend meet & greet sessions organised by the Cavan New York Gaa Community (who funded the trip), how can you roll all that into 5 days and have a decent training camp. I'd say the Cavan players will need 5 days now to recover from this - thats more of a farce than anything written on this forum

Also, I am sure the Monaghan players did have a few sociables in Portugal but I bet they managed to get a lot of good work in as well
