I actually think they get a flat rate for each game no matter where it is, but I could be wrong. A number of years ago a ref told me that.

It's probaly better to mix it up a bit so there can't be any favouritism. Ultimately these are the biggest games of the season and should be ref fairly.

Cassidy in 2020 might have been more towards Derry as they are neighbours of Donegal. I seen Padraig Hughes of Armagh ref a Cavan v Monaghan in2015 and he was giving most of the calls to monaghan. He's only a few mile from the Monaghan border

Think they get a flat fee but also use to be 50c a mile travelling . Whether that went up or not I don't know. But 4 umpires and a ref is 2 cars min. But surely coming from Cork they would be overnight accommodation too?

It is a flat fee, mileage would differ though

Do they put any logical thought into referee appointments I wonder… Some of the appointments with their proximity to the competing counties is just baffling….

Cassidy has bigger links to Donegal than that. Think he has some in laws and a holiday home there, as well as bring from a neighbouring county. He should never ever have been in charge of a Donegal game

He shouldn't be put in charge of any game in my opinion…!!!

He had good help that day from Brannigan who was the one who called the black cards.

On the Tailtian Cup…. Why are the GAA dividing it into North and South…? Just another way of showing little respect or interest in this competition… I can see this going the way of the Tommy ( Cooper ) Murphy Cup because of lack of promotion on the GAA's part.. Hope I'm wrong..!!!

The only way I could see it working is to offer the winners a place in this years championship qualifiers not next years.
And with the final not due until 9th July that can't happen.

He nearly messed up that 2020 match against Monaghan. Didn't he give that last minute free (which Galligan pointed) for the foul on Thomas Galligan, but he made him take it from the mark position, and not bringing it 15m further on like the rules state? Luckily Raymond nailed it, but he was poor that match too

Looking back at last Sundays game the two goals were an embarrassing mess…. Galligan totally at fault for the first and was it Clarke dropping the high ball onto Mc Breartys back…both real junior B defending .. Donegal won't get the same gifts from here on

You can see now how other teams will target that ploy in the Tailteann cup as there is a weakness there.
But if you don't kick them in in training the backs won't master the art of catching under a high ball.

Really don't know why Galligan attempted to come for that. Murphy wasn't even trying to compete, he stayed on the ground. Gunner Brady was eyeing the ball up (he was actually pushed slightly by Murphy if you watch it back) and then with Galligan launching in, it turned into a mess and they got the goal. He stays back, and a combination of Gunner free to claim it, and him on the line means that goal isn't scored. 2nd goal different situation. Heads had dropped, Donegal were then winning well, it wouldn't have been scored like that with it being a draw or a one point game. The 1st goal is the issue, the 2nd nearly expected after the exertion and then getting caught for the 1st

Other teams in it don't have a Murphy, to make our lads fill the togs. That was a once off situation, can't see anyone at TC level making hay with this. We've otherwise been good under the high ball. It was a mishit shot with a big generational talent under it.

Well Tipperary almost did the same thing in the last minute of the Div 4 league final.
London big full forward nearly pulled it off against us to in Ruislip.
It's the old ploy of a high ball into the square can end up anywhere. You only need it to come off 1/2 times to change a game. As it did last Sunday.

Murphy didn't even go for the ball… for all his shouting Galligan made a complete hames of the situation and Clarke looked juvenile under the other high ball… Cavan played very well apart from these 2 incidents…they were mistakes top teams seldom make at the high level

He didn't go for it, as I literally say above. But just his presence seems to have caused havoc in there
