Junior Championship Predictions

Shannon Gaels v Knockbride - Should be an intriguing clash between last years finalists and the favourites, but Knockbride should have too much quality. Knockbride by 7.

Drung v Drumalee - Tricky tie to call Drung probably the better side last year with Drumalee underperforming. Drung by 2.

Templeport v Redhills - Templeport will fancy themselves for this championship, hard to know what Redhills 15 will be playing. Templeport by 5.

Swanlinbar v Denn - Denn will consider themselves one of the favourites for the championship, despite massively underperforming at this grade in the past two seasons. On the other hand it's hard to see Swanlinbar recovering from the loss of McKiernan, as they were already working off a small panel. Denn by 10 plus.

Kildallon v Munterconnacht - Two evenly matched sides, Munterconnacht finished last season strong and I expect them to pull through here. Munchies by 3.

Mountnugent v Kill - Mountnugent are a good championship side and have one of the best forward lines in the competition, they will be disappointed not to have beat their neighbours the munchies in the quarters last season. Mountnugent by 7.

Are Swanlinbar and Corlough not combined this year? It will take a lot to replace the loss of McKiernan but they have gained a lot of fine young players from Corlough. I think it will be a lot tighter than 10 plus points

Are championship formats exactly the same as last year . With normal promotion and relegation?

What do you mean by combined? Are they an amalgamation? or have a few Corlough players just gone to play for Swad because they dont have a team themselves now?

What was is the league working this year? Or is there a league at all? There's absolutely nothing about fixtures on the Cavan GAA website..

Yes there is a league this year. 4 rounds open draw with top 2 teams through to final. No promotion or relegation.
Corlough players transferring to swad as far as I know.

If every team has 4 games in the league there must be 5 teams in a Group and the top 2 play in the final, will there even a cup or 8? How does the open Draw work is it open within each Division as they currently stand or can Castlerahan play Maghera?

Yes all Corlough players are playing with Swad under the name of Swanlinbar.

My main concern with the fixtures is that there is no Reserve League, this will leave players that don't make first team not kicking a ball until mid Sept when championship starts. Could there not be Reserve league fixtures double up with 1st team have 1st team @ 2.00 and reserve @ 3.30 on a Sunday??

Playing 1st team and 2nd team games after each other??? Thats alot of time spent at a gaa pitch on a sunday. Alot of clubs would need several 1st team players to tog out on the reserves to fulfill the fixture which would put a toll on their muscles and also on their personal life being away for the guts of 5 hours on a sunday afternoon.

Where do you get the 5 hours 1 game @ 2 o clock 2nd game @ 3.30??? Maybe you meant not over till near 5 instead of 5 hours.
From reports of all challenge matches this weekend there were record numbers of both players and spectators in appalling conditions.
I think that Reserve players mostly 17/18/19 need games now to keep them interested and not have to wait 10/11 weeks for games, only a couple of years ago there was concern at the dropout level in this age bracket and Minor going back to Under 18 to help this now there is no Under 20/21 probably the competition that started in February will be abandoned and these players will not get a game until Mid September.
I think Reserve is 11 and 13 a side how many clubs could not field almost 2 separate teams indeed with the numbers some could field 3
We know Maghera and Kill will probably have no Reserve team but who else this year?

game at 2, so get there at 1/1.15 for warm up. so Leave the house at 12.30/12.45 if its an away game. 2nd game start at 3.30, not over until 4.45. Then warm down till 5, then drive home..guts of 5 hours

You are a very negative person.

I don't know what age you are but Senior and Reserve games used to always be played on a Sunday with lads playing 2 games and then going for a few pints after which could have them away for 7 or 8 hours.

you mustn't have young kids so.. or be a believer that fixture congestion/burn out exists if you want 2 games a day for players

People haven't been able to barely put there heads outside the door for months and now are getting the chance to get back out playing and meeting people and you think its not acceptable been away from home for 5 hours,

Yes a couple of lads will play two games it will do them no harm it's been going on for years it's not as if there is going to 16 or 17 games. If you offered a lad two games on a Sunday or an hour and a half of pure running/sprints at Training on a Sunday morning i know what the majority would be picking.

I do have young kids yes and they would only be delighted to get away from the house, there mother would definitely appreciate having some time to herself.
