Hard luck today Cavan. Gave it everything. More worrying was Dara McVitty going off with suspected pulled hamstring. What were they doing on the side line that he was'nt taken off at the first sign of trouble. Was left on for a good 5 minutes after first signs of trouble and has now probably done more damage.

Nice to see Cavan play entertaining football all be it coming off on the wrong side of the score.
McVeety should have been taken of as soon as he got injured as Seanie's pass to him resulted in a Roscommon goal.
Maddens introduction did not improve things as he wasted a lot of ball.
A lot to work on before we play Donegal.
I expected more from Gearoid, needs to step upto the plate for these big games.
On the bright side, at the start of the league who'd have thought we'd be in Croke Park and promoted to div 1.
Well done to all .

Well that was disappointing. Good effort, but not being able to kick points in the first half ultimately came back to haunt us I think. We left McVeety on for too long after he got his knock, I guess seeing if he could run it off, but he could now be a serious worry for the Donegal game - and we don't look as effective a team without him. I thought Seanie Johnston had a good impact when he came on, sharpened up the attack which had been poor first half. In the end though scores just seemed to come much easier for Roscommon and that was the difference.

Hard luck to the boys today they did their best. Roscommon had the better forward line neither team had any defense. we did very well to get promoted to division 1 with this team. I think we over achieved as the team that got promoted in 2016 was much better with a solid defense. I think that only Mcvitty Martin Reilly and Galligan are of division one standard out of this group. Well done again it was some achievement from Mcglenan to get promoted to division one with this group of players

2 poor defenses that were ripped apart at various times. Our inexperience showed but hopefully we will learn from it.
How McKiernan managed to stay on for 70 mins beats me. Very ineffective and very slow to track back or mark.
Sean J and Mackey still the best 2 forwards around. Their experience showed. There is definitely 30 good minutes in Seanie.
Forwards showed well at times but seemed nervous.
Backline got ripped apart for those goals . Centre back was wide open.
All in all we missed 2 45s towards the end and took 2 scoresble quick frees that got turned over.
How we haven't a forward to kick a 45 is behond me.
Lads need to start learning quick because when Johnston and Mackey retire I fail to see leaders to step up.

I think we could over analyse today's game. surely it was something of ablow out game for both teams.croke park in April after a tough tough winters training and football.throw of the shackles of tactics and systems and just go out and play the game and see where it takes them.

Re McVeety i suspect its his hip or ankle......if the hamstring was pulled, the physio should have taken him off.....with a bang theres a chance it could be run off....but it was obvious he had to come off.

Re the defence.....there is no defence...poor markamnship by Down, and exceptional goalkeeping by Galligan in games v Down Tipperary and Roscommon masked the fact that we were leaking goal chances at will. Ciaran Brady, is a talent, but hes not a Centre Back....he scored 2-5 from play in the league matches fro their....give me a Cian O Sulivan type player for that position all day long. Im not saying drop Brady, Im saying put him in a position where we can get the best out of him....an attacking half back or a wing or centre forward.

Mattie has a lot of work to do to get that defence right.....is he up to it? I dont think so but I hope Im proved wrong......this kamikazee stuff wont survive in Ulster Championship or Div 1 next year.

Mcveety was excellent, Gearoid was in and out of the game, Mackey had a rare off day, and nobody else really stood up and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Johnstone done well in possession, but the man he was tracking waltzed past him to set up one of the goals. If hes playing, he has to play as a FF drifting out rather than a conventional half forward as he was today. Its hard at his age to adjust to the demand of that position, having mainly played as an inside man over his career. We missed too many chances up front, and our defence isnt solid enough if our attack doesnt fire. Madden had a few bad wides when he came on, we must have kicked 5 or 6 into the keepers hands, Galligan missed 2 45s, and there were other bad wides. The wind was bad in the first half, but we warmed up in front of the hill...lads should have figured out where, and where not, to shoot from

unfortunately not good enough again against Roscommon despite the blistering start. We simply dont have the players to take scores like the Murtaghs, Smiths, Devany , Cregg etc. McVitty excellent(as he has been in recent games). also Martin Reilly. Mackey carried well and was always looking up for killer pass, just a pity his shots on goal didn't have the legs. Gearoid again not fit enough . Johnston played well and took scores well but unfortunately doesn't have the legs for this modern county game where you have to track your man all over the field. Ciaran Brady great in an attacking sence. Bradly and Cole showed up well at times. Faulkner also but I think damage done further out the field. nevertheless it was great to see Cavan in Croke Park again and we could have snuk it if we had taken half of those missed frees, drooped shots and wides. A bit more composure needed. a lot of young inexperienced players in that starting lineup so hopefully they ;and management team) will learn from it. congratulations again on promotion and for all your efforts this league that gave us supporters lots to cheer about.

Paddy McBrearty and co will do some damage against that Cavan. They have a lot of work to do in next 7 weeks. The signs were there earlier in the League against Down.

There is a lot to be positive about. Players are there. Look at whats not there from last year and we are competitive. The issue for me is around our defensive system. If forwards dont perform....it happens to every team from time to time....we dont have a defensive system thats good enough to get us out of jail. I think the management team are letting this group of players down by ignoring or at best not putting enough emphasis on what we do when we dont have the ball

After watching both matches yesterday it's hard to comprehend where we are going with our team. To be honest there was no consideration for anything regarding our midfield all the way's back to the goal keeper. I felt it was a devil may care attitude and that there was no game plan what so ever.
Maybe the management should note how Galway set up going forward and retreating we just did not seem to have any of this discipline sadly we are in trouble if this is not addressed. Look promotion was the target they got that but I cannot see this team with the attitude that was out there yesterday I am sorry to say doing much more. I even saw at one stage one of our players even arguing with one of our coaches this for me is total lack of discipline and RESPECT. Allowing this to go without this player being reprimanded we will be in deep S***. Seen it many times before with certain individuals and I cannot ever remember one of them getting a dressing down for their behavior.
People mention a free taker Martin Reilly is well capable of popping them over from 55 meters out I have seen him do it many times so from 45 meters is even easier. I know he can be hot one day and cold another. Barry Reilly is a good free taker but he is not around.
Galway were robbed yesterday by so many bad decisions made by the referee the majority of them all within scoring distance it's a disgrace that some referees seem to be blinkered to anything the Dubs do. I saw stuff going on out there that you would expect to see in hurling with six or seven in a pack trying to get the ball thats fine for it's part of the game. I am not sure Galway got one of the resulting frees that came from these instances and there were many.

However Cavan should sit down and watch this match for if they want to progress in this years championship they might learn something from it. I am sure the ability is there it's just a matter of tapping into it. Cavan have to work first and foremost on midfield back. To be honest I am a firm advocate of having a strong spine there was none there yesterday.
I suppose easy to moan when one is just watching.

The player was shouting to take an injured player off. He was dead right. Leaving him on cost us a goal.

Why Ciaran Brady at 6....hes too attack minded for CB
Why drop Mackey, along with McVeety hes our best forward. He didnt have a great day yesterday, but he found gaps, and has the ability to exploit them

Clarke should be full back.....marking either McBrearty or Murphy.....none of your full back line will have any chance on either.

No he was not you can say what you like the incident was at least 70 meters from where Dara was having trouble.

My reading from Dara's incident was he did not want to come off so what can you do this is then a call by the management not the doctor or the physio.

No gameplan is a management issue.

Martin Reillys freetaking is suspect to say the least, first one goes over, next one could be 10 yards wide...Galligan, although he didnt show it yesterday, is more reliable. he forced his frees yesterday, when he easily had the distance....his focus should be to trust that he has the distance, and worry about the accuracy

Respect runs both ways.....the players should be respected by having a management team in place that is competent.....as for the player arguing with the coach....Holla I believe....do you know the context....I doubt it....is it possible that he was telling the coach that McVeety is injured, or that player X isnt doing what he should be....frustration happens,,,,,also has Holla is vice captain, he has more of a say so that shouldnt be discounted

We beat Galway convincingly in Breffni a couple of years ago....we are not that far away, but for me its the limited ability and experience of the management team thats the biggest issue

Brady being one of our best players all year regardless of attacking instinct. A good manager will have a plan to allow him attack and someone fill that space.
Mackey does not have a full game in him and I rather him come on and finish game strongly.
No guarantees Murphy gonna be in ff line and is often out the middle so Clarke can go with him. He can't mark two players so your argument is void. McBrearty will have to be marked by Murray or Faulkner. You also need a good system in place. Something I don't believe we have.

A player does not make such decisions. The management does. Otherwise every player could refuse be be subbed.the mgmt did not act quick enough yesterday.

Mackey is not match fit because he only came into the panel a week or 2 before the league started.....no McKenna Cup, no winter training, no club matches and therefore lacking match fitness....if he hangs around he will be vital to us having any chance against Donegal. With league games almsot every week its pretty much impossible to get the preseason miles in the legs, and be available for selection.

Brady has been excellent....moreso going forward....highest scorer from play with 2-5 I believe......that is no what you need from a Centre Back. Add to the fact that IMO we dont have a good manager, who cant put a plan in place to cover for that.....when we attack and are turned over we leak goal chances. Down should have scored 3,

My argument is void??? Of course he cant mark 2 players....he has to mark ONE OF THEM.....for me its more important to mark the guy who is the scoring threat which is likely to be McBrearty. Faulkner isnt strong enough to handle him....Clarke should be. If they play the 2 inside then we are in big trouble. If the guy inside beats his man its a goal threat, if the man out the field beats his man, then there is likely tobe cover.

Clarke on McBrearty with Faulkner at CB would be a lot more defensively sound than Faulkner at FB, Brady at CB and Clarke at MF. Murray or Faulkner will be bullied by McBrearty....have you seen the size of the guy??
