Meath v Cavan challenge

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With Cavan's next competitive match 6 weeks away one would assume that matches like this would be invaluable to the squad in their preparation for the championship. How do you suggest Mattie and the management would approach a game like this?

Head for Oldcastle take the kells road, pitch on the right.

they approached it by changing the club games from a sat evening as scheduled to a friday evening..more time off work

It's a pity they wouldn't change the reserve games too. Sunday at 2pm is a terrible time. No wonder so many teams are conceding fixtures.
I'd be expecting another comfortable victory for Cavan over Meath. They are poor. Can't see them doing anything in Leinster in this year's championship.

Who told you that, or did you just decide it yourself? You know, get the first negative, pointless post in.

These challenge games are meaningless and a total waste of time.... Why do Tyrone never play these games...?

Normally I'd agree but at this time of year and with the next competitive game six weeks away I'd say that the management see some use in it otherwise they wouldn't agree to play it. Although I doubt there'll be anyone from Fermanagh or Monaghan down watching, wouldn't you think it's a good chance for some of the players on the fringe of the team or younger lads to at least contribute to staking their claim for a starting place?

So players should play two games in two days with no rest? Cavan need the game with such a long break and new manager.

I didn't say they weren't. I asked you who told you that the games were changed because of the Cavan v Meath challenge game? A very straight forward question I thought.

Mattie told me...why, did you hear different?

Well are we having a serious discussion here or should I just say that another member of the management team told me differently?

I'll take that reply as a "No" to my last question. Carry on.

It's a challenge game. No need to be making predictions.

Okay I'll take your instruction on board and endeavor not to predict the outcome of anymore challenge games. I'm new to this forum and didn't realise you were in authority. How silly of me to assume that some posters here would like to discuss/speculate on this game that is taking place 6 weeks before the championship.

I just meant both teams will be experimenting and probably use 25 odd players. Predictions are a nonsence in that situation.

The last thing they want is a defeat though. The Roscommon game really took the wind out of our sails.
I was more interested in the setup of the team and if anyone knew of any new players that have been brought in since the league that might be tried out and stuff like that rather than the outcome to be honest.

Hopefully some of u21s will be looked at. Meath are much improved under new manager so be good test.
