In April 2008, the death occurred suddenly in Waterford of former Cavan footballer Philip Fitzsimons of Stillorgan and formerly of Pullamore near Cavan town. He was chief executive of FBD Insurance. The Killygarry native played for the local GFC for many years and won an intermediate championship with Killygarry in 1970. That year, he was also on the Sarsfields (Killygarry-Butlersbridge) team that pushed Crosserlough all the way in the senior semi-final. In '71, Sarsfields got to the county SFC decider but were again beaten by the great Crosserlough seven-in-a-row team. Philip was called up into the Cavan senior football panel and served the Breffni Blues either at full back or midfield.
