Morris, Christy

The sudden and unexpected death of Christy in December 2013 sent shock waves from his homeplace at Drumcarey to near and far.

Christy built up an extensive farming enterprise over the years and won many awards in his chosen work.

Outside of farming and his family, he had a great love for Gaelic football and in his youth was a talented player who gave sterling service to the Cormore club.

Arguably his proudest moment came in 1957 when as team captain he led Cormore to county championship honours when they overcame Belturbet in the final.

Christy is survived by his wife Margaret, son Bernard (former Cavan star), daughters Aileen, Clare, Imelda, Sinead, Joan, Maeve, Grainne and Paula, sister Mrs. Madge Bouchier (Arva), Mrs. Sheila Manning (Limerick) and Mrs. Gladys Doherty (Ballinasloe), sons in law, daughters in law, grandchildren, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and countless friends.

Among the guards of honour were ones made up of ex-team mates from Cormore football club and Gowna football club.
