Donnelly, Paddy

Paddy sadly died at the age of 93 on January 7th last, a great loss to his family, relatives and friends.

The eldest of a family of 11, Paddy's prowess on the football field was well known, especially during the time he wore the colours of Cavan Harps.

He came to live in Belturbet in 1950, eight years after he won a Cork County Championship medal while a member of the army there, raised a family and completed his football career with the Rory O'Moores.

Paddy's time as a footballer mostly saw him play in the position of goalkeeper, a role he was so good at that he very nearly made the Cavan Polo Grounds panel in 1947.

Paddy was a great family man. He was predeceased by his wife May in 2011 and is survived by his daughter Patricia; sons Patrick, Peter, Billy, Gary and Paul; brother Sean; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law and extended family.
