McInerney, Paddy


Formerly from Aughadreenagh. Redhills, Paddy McInerney of Oldcastle Road, Ballyjamesduff passed away suddenly on Friday, December 2nd, 2016. Paddy served as a national school teacher in Crosskeys for more than 30 years up until his retirement in 1997. As a young man, he was a noted footballer with Redhills, togging out alongside his five brothers in the 1960s and '70s. Winner of a senior championship with Annagh and an intermediate one with Redhills in 1973, he also contributed enormously to the GAA in a number of surrounding clubs. During his time as Principal of Crosskeys N.S. he coached and trained many Denn footballers from underage level through to senior and is acknowledged as the architect of the great Denn teams which brought pride and honour to the parish in the late 'eighties and 'nineties. Manager of the Denn side that won the 1988 IFC, Paddy McInerney also contributed greatly to the wellbeing of Castlerahan GAA club, which he served as a player, coach, trainer, manager and administrator. He was honorary president of Castlerahan at the time of his death.
