Donegal booked their place in this year’s Nickey Rackard Cup final thanks to a 1-25 to 2-10 victory over Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park this afternoon.

Gerard Gilmore and Liam McKinney combined for 0-16 over the 70 minutes for the Tir Chonaill men while Sean Ward contributed 1-4, including a 28th minute goal.

Ward’s strike saw the visitors towards a commanding 1-13 to 0-8 interval lead and, despite goals from Robbie Fallon and Benny Mulry for the Rossies after the turnaround, it was Mickey McCann’s men that cruised towards the competition’s decider.

They will face either Roscommon or Mayo at Croke Park for the title, with the two set for a derby showdown in Roscommon next Saturday to determine which side will advance to the final.

Mayo were 4-29 to 1-16 winners over Armagh this afternoon in Castlebar, where John Hearty and Sean Regan struck early goals on the way towards a handsome victory for the home side.

Meanwhile, Louth came through a thrilling clash against Monaghan in Inniskeen to pick up their first win on a 4-12 to 2-17 scoreline and condemn their opponents to a fourth straight loss in the process.
