Paddy McBrearty was the hero for Donegal this afternoon as they overcame Kerry by 0-13 to 1-9 in Ballybofey to mark the perfect start to their Allianz Football League Division 1 campaign.

The Tir Chonaill County’s captain landed the winning point from some 40 metres out in the fourth minute of injury-time to secure both points and deny the holders a share of the spoils.

Dara Moynihan’s goal looked to have the Kingdom in the driving seat after 13 minutes as it was backed up by points from Tom O’Sullivan and Killian Spillane that opened up a five-point margin (1-4 to 0-2).

However, points from Conor O’Donnell, Caolan McGonagle and John McGroddy kept Paddy Carr’s men right in it as they went in at the half trailing 1-6 to 0-6.

The first four points of the restart would go the way of the hosts and it’d be airtight from there, with Donal O’Sullivan cancelling out McGonagle’s point in the final minute of regulation.

However, cometh the hour, McBrearty took his chance (see below) when it presented itself deep in injury-time to put two early points on the board for Donegal.
