Tipperary GAA saddened by death of Tom McLoughney

Tom McLoughney (RIP).
Tipperary GAA has been saddened by the death of one of its former hurling stars, Tom McLoughney.
Lining out in the full-forward line, the Kilruane MacDonaghs clubman won back-to-back All-Ireland SHC titles with the county in 1961 and 1962, having made his league debut in 1959. In addition, Tom claimed three Munster SHC medals in 1960, 61 and 62, two National Leagues, 1959/60 and 60/61, coming on as a substitute in the 62/63 Home Final against eventual winners Waterford and added two Oireachtas trophies to his list. He was also a selector with the Tipperary seniors in 1980.
McLoughney hailed from Ardcroney where he enjoyed great success with the local Kilruane MacDonaghs club, winning two North finals (1959 and 1965) as a player and a three-in-a-row of North and County titles (1977-1979) as a selector. It completes a very sad three months for Tipperary GAA, which has in that time lost two legendary hurlers, the great Theo English and now his former county team-mate Tom McLoughney.
Tipperary county board chairman Joe Kennedy paid tribute to the late Tom McLoughney in a statement: "I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Tom McLoughney, who made a massive contribution to Tipperary GAA, as a player, selector and in latter years a loyal and dedicated supporter of both club and county. Tom was one of lifes gentleman and always a pleasure to meet at games."
