Mark Fanning rocketed in a 20-metre free in the seventh minute of injury-time as Wexford snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against a spirited Antrim side this afternoon in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League.
It finished 1-13 to 1-12 at Chadwicks Wexford Park, where Davy Fitzgerald’s men had led for long stages before the hosts fought back to level towards the end of normal time.
Conor Johnston’s goal in the first minute of injury-time surged Antrim back in front and they looked claiming the opening round victory until Wexford’s ‘keeper produced the heroics at the death for the Model men take both points.

Conal Cunning and Seaan Elliott were among the Glensmen’s scorers in the first-half as they held a 0-9 to 0-6 half-time advantage and would remain in front until the 69th minute when Simon Roche’s free saw the sides all square on 0-12 apiece.
Johnston’s goal looked to have been enough after that, but there’d still be time for Fanning’s late intervention to spare the Slaneysiders from an opening home defeat.
In Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow were a lot more comfortable as they recorded a 2-18 to 1-11 win against Down.
John Michael Nolan and Donagh Murphy (1-4) supplied the winners’ goals in the second-half as they went to secure two early points in the Division 1B table.
In Division 2, Meath were impressive in a 1-20 to 1-10 win against London at St Loman’s Park, Mullingar, where Mikey Cole’s early goal set the tone for the Royals, while Kerry cruised to an emphatic 5-23 to 0-12 win over Derry at Celtic Park where Daniel Casey, Colin Walsh, Oisin Maunsell and Ronan Walsh (2, 1 penalty) netted the goals.
