Watch: Yet more controversy as Glenties beat Kilcar again

October 24, 2021

Referee Enda McFeely rules out a late Kilcar goal against Naomh Conaill.

In yet more controversy, Naomh Conaill reaffirmed their superiority over Kilcar with a hard-earned 0-11 to 0-8 Donegal SFC semi-final victory in Letterkenny this afternoon.

Kilcar had a punched goal effort by marksman Paddy McBrearty in injury-time ruled out by referee Enda McFeely after consulation with his umpires. That would have levelled matters at 0-11 to 1-8 and forced extra-time at O'Donnell Park. However, the holders kept their composure to sneak across the winning line in front having been deadlocked with their Towney counterparts on 0-4 apiece at the short whistle.

The sides clashed in the 2020 county final two months ago (Naomh Conaill came out on top 4-2 on penalties), but following a successful appeal by Kilcar, the Donegal CCC ruled that the winners were in breach of regulation by fielding four extra-time substitutes - one more than the permitted three - and ordered a replay. In a further twist, the replay was postponed as Ulster GAA said that a rule was infringed in relation to video evidence after Naomh Conaill appealed the Donegal CCC's decision.
