Oisin McConville fires in Armagh's goal in the 2002 All-Ireland SFC final despite the efforts of Kerry's Seamus Moynihan

Armagh fans worldwide will remember it like it was yesterday…

On September 22, 2002, the Orchard County ended their All-Ireland SFC famine after they defeated Kerry by 1-12 to 0-14 at a packed Croke Park.

Having trailed the Kingdom by five points after Oisin McConville had missed a penalty, Joe Kernan’s team took charge in the second-half and it was Crossmaglen’s McConville that took the opportunity to redeem his miss by slamming home a 55th minute goal which swung the game for the Orchard men.

There were scenes of jubilation afterwards at headquarters as captain Kieran McGeeney collected his county’s maiden Sam Maguire Cup.
