Derry maintained their 100% record in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League this afternoon by seeing off Kildare in emphatic fashion in Newbridge.

It finished 2-15 to 0-7 in the visitors’ favour at St Conleth’s Park, where Niall Loughlin and Shane McGuigan fired in the goals either side of half-time.

Loughlin’s strike came on the half-hour mark as Rory Gallagher’s in-form charges made their way towards a commanding 1-8 to 0-3 half-time lead and the one-way traffic would continue after the teams switched sides, with McGuigan and Ethan Doherty adding points before the former sent a rocket to the roof of the Lilywhites’ net.

In Navan, Mickey Harte’s Louth side dug deep to overcome Meath with a come from behind 1-15 to 1-12 victory.

Having trailed 0-6 to 0-5 at the half, the Royals looked on course for their third win of the campaign after Donal Keogan’s 46th minute goal was backed up by the points of Jack Flynn and Matthew Costello.

Five points behind, Louth would go on to own the third quarter and it saw Ciaran Downey’s points help to close the margin to one ahead of Craig Lennon hammering to the Meath net with less than 10 minutes remaining. Donal McKenny’s point on 68 minutes would help ensure the precious derby win for the Wee County.

The day’s later game in the second tier saw a ruthless Cork side crush Limerick with a 6-18 to 0-12 victory at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Ian Maguire, Colm O’Callaghan, Sean Powter and captain Brian Hurley bagged the first-half goals for the Rebels as they led by 4-9 to 0-6 at the break.

Conor Corbett raised two more green flags after the turnaround on an occasion to forget for Limerick, as John Cleary’s men joined Meath and Louth on four points in the Division 2 table.
