Almost 20 years on and it still lives fondly in the memory of Nemo Rangers supporters.
When it came to execution of placed balls there weren’t too many better than former Cork star Colin Corkery and the below clip posted by @nemo_archive on Twitter yesterday gives some evidence towards that.
The minute-long clip shows footage of the 2001 Cork senior football championship final between Nemo Rangers and Bantry Blues at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where Corkery landed an exquisite sideline point with the outside of his boot to put his team into an early 0-4 to 0-2 lead.
Nemo would go on to win the final by 1-14 to 0-6, with their captain Corkery notching 0-10 in total and lifting what was then the club’s 12th Andy Scannell Cup.

The Cork giants went on to claim the Munster club SFC crown before losing out to Ballinderry Shamrocks in the All-Ireland final on St Patrick’s Day.
The following year on the same stage at Croke Park they would defeat Crossmolina Deel Rovers by 0-14 to 1-9, avenging their final loss from two years previous to pick up a record seventh Andy Merrigan Cup for the club which still stands to this day.
Corkery hit 2-23 in five matches on the way to Nemo’s triumph, edging then Mayo star Ciaran McDonald by two points to finish as the All-Ireland club SFC’s top-scorer that season.
