All Ireland Scor..Hard luck to the Cornafean Quiz Team, Senior Scor All Ireland Finalists, in Sligo recently who finished fourth out of 28 counties after an excellent display in the final. The lads lost narrowly to Monaleen from Limerick after a tie breaker round for 3rd place. Well done to Martin Maguire, Brian Doyle, Michael Dinneny and Tommy Mcgibney on their excellent effort and no doubt the team will be back next year. Also well done to the Mullahoran Instrumental Music and Crosserlough Set Dancers on their performances in the final but were unfortunately unsuccessful.

Football update
Well done to the Reds on a hard fought victory over Knockbride in the ACFL Division 2 on Saturday evening last. A one point victory after a titanic struggle with the visitors will be a great moral booster for the team going forward especially as the squad have been quite unlucky with a run of injuries of late. Next up for the Reds is a reserve game v Butlersbridge on this Saturday afternoon and on Sunday the Seniors play Belturbet in an away fixture.

Division 2 ACFL
Cornafean 1 - 12 Knockbride 0 - 14
Well done to Cornafean who were short a number of regulars and lost M. Johnson to injury early in the game but fought bravely to hold off a strong challenge from Knockbride in Cornafean on Saturday evening last. Aodhagan Smith got the Reds off the mark early on but P. Rogers hit two points for the visitors. The loss of full back Mark Johnson seemed to have an adverse effect on Cornafean as the visitors took over in all sectors and kicked 4 pts without reply. In fiarness the Reds composed themselves for the last 10 minutes of the first half and scores from A. Smith, Barry Doyle (2 pts) and A. Wharton left the score at the break 0 -5 to 0 - 7 in favour of the East Cavan men. The Reds were the hungrier team in the first quarter of the second period and points from B. Doyle and J. McGahern put Cornafean a point up. In fairness Knockbride stuck to the task and were not letting the Reds out of site but a fisted goal by N. Sheridan after a high ball was kicked in from D. Wharton was a huge boost and certainly helped to drive the team on to victory. The exchanges were fierce at this stage of the game with both teams giving of their best. C. Cullen and B. Doyle again kicked over a couple of beauties but the Knocbride men and P. Rogers especially were not going away and replied with good scores. With the clock ticking down J. McGahern and B. Doyle once again sent over the black spot and when C. Sheridan kicked over a beauty on the run from 35 yards it gave the Reds the edge to hold out for the narrowest of victories on a scoreline of Cornafean 1 - 12 to Knockbride's 0 - 14. Despite missing players this was a magnificent effort from the Reds team and subs and hopefully will breed confidence among many of the younger players as the games come thick and fast.
