"The Golden Years Of Cavan Football'' CD launched

The communications committee of Cavan County Board GAA launched a CD of Cavan's glory days from 1927 to 1952 entitled "The Golden Years Of Cavan Football'' on Thursday night 1st December in Hotel Kilmore, Dublin Road, Cavan.
During the twenty-five years featured on the CD Cavan won 5 All-Ireland senior titles, 1933.35, 1947, '48 and 1952, nineteen Ulster championship titles, and a National football league success in 1948.
The attendance included representatives of Cavan Co. Board; Michael Greenan, Chairman of the Ulster Council, as well as a number of past footballers of the forties and early fifties, including John Sheridan, Killinkere and representatives from the clubs of the county.
Speakers included Co. Board Chairman George Cartwright, Sean Byers, Crosserlough and Joe Hunt from Offaly, who taught in Legga National School in Longford, and has written a poem about the Cavan team which won the 1947 All-Ireland football title, the only senior final played outside Ireland, in the Polo Grounds, New York.
Eddie Brady from Ballinagh gives an unscripted narration of events, dates, personalities, venues, weather conditions and other intricate details that is incredibly collated on this double CD and is a must for all followers of GAA in Cavan and beyond.
The CD also includes an introduction by former Crosserlough player Sean Byers who was a member of the historic Crosserlough 7 in a row senior championship team of 1966-1972, and number of songs relating to the famous men and teams of Cavan who brought honour and glory to their county.
The Golden Years Of Cavan Football was officially launched by outstanding player of the forties and fifties, Mick Higgins who holds three All-Ireland senior medals, 1947, 48 and 1952, and was captain of the team in 1952 which defeated Meath in a replay and in which he contributed towards the bulk of the scoring.
He went on to manage the Cavan senior team from 1956-1970 and was at the helm when Cavan won four Ulster titles in the sixties, 1962, 1964, 1967 and 1969.
The retired Garda Sergeant also successfully managed the Ulster team to a number of Railway Cup football titles and went on to manage Longford and Donegal.
Mick Higgins features many times in this production and recalls the glory days of Cavan football.
The double CD is distributed by the Communications committee of Cavan County Board and is on sale at selected locations through the county.
